The Toggle Tray is a piece of functional art for your tabletop. Inspired by the common on/off button you see in your phone apps, the solid wood coaster can be moved closer or farther away from the user. This playfulness is meant to bridge the world of always-on technology with an actual tactile experience.

This piece is a minimalist take on the graphical UI toggle using contrasting wood species. The Light Mode style uses the lighter North American solid Soft Maple wood for its tray base and coaster button. The coaster glides across a dark Black Walnut floor. In the Dark Mode style, the colors are reversed so that the Walnut forms the tray and coaster while the Maple provides the contrasting lightened floor. The inherent natural wood variations add to its uniqueness. And, given its modular nature, you can create new design combinations using multiple sets of Toggle Trays.

The simple geometric shape creates a timeless modern feeling. The 4" coaster can accommodate even the largest of coffee mugs or an average size beer stein. The design also features a soft curve of the tray bottom that settles into the hand when carried. The small raised foot allows a set of trays to be stacked when the coaster is removed. The table dimensions of the assembled trays are 256 mm wide by 128 mm deep (approximately 10" by 5") and stand a little over 1" tall.

Each part of the tray is finished with a food-safe, low-VOC hard wax—use the same hard wax to repair the product! Product care is simply a matter of using a lightly moistened cloth, optionally with a dab of dish soap. It is possibly the most over-engineered coaster.
