Product Care for Waxed Solid Wood

Close up of solid wood pattern

These are care instructions for solid wood products with a wax finish and furniture oils. Please note the product care included with your specific product may have additional instructions.

What is wax finish?

Waxes mixed with furniture oils are applied to solid wood surfaces to seal them. The formulations vary, however most result in a hard wax coating that lightly protects the wood, deepens the color, and still allows you to feel the wood grain with your hands. The surface of the wood should not feel "waxy" once the coating has fully cured.

Can damage to the wood surface be repaired?

Wear is normal for waxed wood products as the surface wax is softer than the deeper wax and oil bonds. For light surface scuffs, this kind of damage may be repairable by sanding then reapplying the same waxes used.

For more significant damage, other repair methods may be required. Please contact us for advice, since each product may have a different manufacturing process.

Can the luster of the wax be restored?

Please follow the specific care instructions included in your owner's packet. It may be as simple as reapplying a small amount of the original wax type and lightly buffing with a microfiber cloth.

Is waxed furniture liquid-resistant?

A fully-cured piece should be lightly water resistant, but prolonged moisture can leave permanent marks. Should you get liquid spills on the furniture, please first try using a small amount of water on a microfiber cloth and lightly clean the surface. Clean hot liquid spills immediately to avoid staining.

Do not submerge the product in water.

Can I use cleaning products on the waxed wood?

Avoid using cleaning products as they may remove the wax coating. A small amount of water on a microfiber cloth is best.
